Who can participate?
Babies, toddlers, preschoolers, children, teens, adults — everyone! Children too young to read by themselves are welcome to participate by having a parent or caretaker sign them up and read to them.
Can I count books that I read on my computer or e-reader?
Of course! It’s all the same to us.
Can I count time that I spend reading to my kids?
For sure! We love when you read to your kids!
Can I count audiobooks?
You bet!
Can I count this podcast I've been listening to?
Yes! We accept podcasts as a form of reading too.
Can I count the time that I spend reading a book even if I don’t finish it?
Absolutely! Ten pages can be counted as ten minutes.
What about the newspaper or this magazine article?
Definitely. We just want you to read!
Can I join the program after its official start date?
You bet! And if you can remember any reading that you’ve done after the official start date, you’re welcome to go back and count that.
Can I count reading that I’ve done before the official start date?
Actually, we do ask that you count only reading you’ve done within the official dates of the program. However, we have no way to verify whether or not you actually do that.
I want to do a family account so I can track my family's reading at the same time. How do I do that?
Not a problem! When signing up for an account it gives you the option to select "Myself and My Children". Use this option to register yourself and your kids!
I registered myself but I forgot my password. How can I retrieve it?
- If you entered your email address when you registered, you can retrieve your password via email. From the Login page, click on “Did you forget your password? Get it by email.”
- If you did not enter your email address when you registered, staff at your branch can help you change your password.
I forgot my username. How can I retrieve it?
Call or stop by your local library branch and ask for the staff to retrieve it for you.
What Will 10 books get me?
For Kids 6 - 11: 10 books will get you your reading certificate, a prize, a book, and an entry into a weekly drawing for a gift card. The sooner you read and return your reading log, the more chances you have to win.
For Teens 12 - 17: 10 books will get you your reading certificate, a prize, a book, and an entry into a drawing for a gift card. One entry per reader.
For Adults: 10 books will get you your reading certificate, a Summer Reading Bag, a book, and an entry into a drawing for a gift card and prize basket. One entry per reader.
Do I have to wait until the Summer Reading Program is over to turn in my Reading Log?
Nope! Our wait period is 2 Days. After that, you can turn it in whenever you want to.
But I want to read more than 10 books!
Then go for it! We love having people who read more than the necessary goal. Please let us know if you need another reading log.
Do I have to be registered to come to your programs?
Nope! Many of our programs are aimed at families, so you're welcome to attend whether or not you've signed up for the reading challenge.
